The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, is to be honoured in her hometown of Detroit at the upcoming and first instalment of the Detroit Music Weekend.

The festival also will feature a handful of ticketed events, going on sale in April, including shows from retro-soul artist Mayer Hawthorne, hip-hop DJ D-Nice and the 2017 R&B Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The public voting portion of the Detroit’s 100 Greatest Songs project has closed. We’re busy tallying the votes, and we will begin unveiling the Top 100 songs on May 8, with the reveal culminating when the final Top 10 songs are announced at the Concert of Colors at Orchestra Hall on July 16.

The Motown Museum on Monday announced a $50 million expansion that aims to transform the complex into "a world-class tourist destination" along West Grand Boulevard.

They'll be seeking millions of dollars from Detroit corporations and philanthropists. If all unfolds as hoped, a museum would be in place within two to four years, likely within an existing downtown structure, Hertz said. Exhibits and memorabilia would highlight Detroit music and artists — Motown, rock, jazz, techno, hip-hop — alongside a performance space and recording studio.
